Topics covered include Johnston's father, Reverend William Riley Johnston, and his missionary activities on the Navajo Nation; Philip Johnston's knowledge of issues pertinent to the Navajo Nation among other Native American communities; Johnston's involvement with the Navajo Code Talkers of World War II; his opinions as to problems with the Glen Canyon Dam (near Page, Arizona); and other topics related to Arizona, Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, and California.

 Abstract:  Reel tape recordings produced by University of Arizona Folklore Committee from 1943 through 1978, and after 1979, by the Southwest Folklore Center. Predominately field recordings from southern Arizona, they include cowboy songs and music, oral history interviews and corridos. The collection also includes 12 studio master tape reels recorded by Mexican American singer Lydia Mendoza. This collection was previously titled SWF 011.
